4/18/11

This week I read A Day No Pigs Would Die by Robert Newton Peck. I really didn't enjoy it all that much. I felt that the book was sort of boring.
This book is all about a young Shaker named Rob. He works on the family farm with his father, Haven Peck. He also attends class. He delivers a neighbor's cow's babies and saves one's life. For this, the neighbor gives him a pig that he grows to have an unusually strong bond with. What makes this book bearable is the fact that it's only 130 pages. The premise of this book is literally a boy loving his dad and pig. I just didn't like it.
If I was forced to meet one character from this book, I think I'd meet the pig. Not because the pig was cool, but because none of the other characters were interesting at all. Questions I would ask the pig would be:
1. Q: What was it like to win 1st prize at the fair?
A: It was very enjoyable. I liked the ribbon I won.
2. Q: Did you like your original owner or Rob better?
A: I loved Rob. That is, until....
3. Q: What were the other animals like?
A: There weren't very many other animals but they were nice
4. Q: Did it hurt to be beaten nearly to death but not completely dead so you could feel your best friend holding you down while his father sliced you into pieces? I'm assuming it sucked.
A: It was horrible. My best friend killed me. :(
After reading that dreadful book, I've read 32 books. I need 3 more poetry anthologies, 2 more classics, and 3 more informational books. If anyone could help me out, I'd appreciate it.

P.S. FEED KYLE'S TROLLS

  1. Dear Tyler,

You should definately read The Godfather. The movie is amazing, and so is the book. And beyond all means, it HAS to be a classic. I'm going to have to debate that one.

  2. Tyler, I am honestly surprised you did not enjoy A Day No Pigs Would Die. But as for a traditional literature recommendation, I think you would like The Giver. It's very enjoyable.

That pig went through so much...:'(

  5. Very nice b-l-o-g, blog Tyler. Some okay poetry books that were short that I read and would recommend would be Zoo Doings and Hey World Here I Am was not to good but short. Aslo Fast Food Nation was a good informational book.

Also I feel bad for that pig for what I has gone through. Plus I feel bad for the book because its most interesting character was a pig.

  6. Jonathan Dubs - I also believe that book is a classic

Nick;) - I just didn't think it was great. I already enjoyed The Giver. And, I know :'(. He's so dead

John - Do you mean 1984?

    Drake;) - wah-hoo!!!!!!!!!

Noah - I would love to read those poetry books. The problem is finding them. The little trolls (7th graders) always have the books out. I don't enjoy them. And before she was killed, that pig was pretty spectacular.

  7. due to a recent battle of the trolls, my troll babies have reduced in size. they were underfed and attacked each other for food. RIP babies<3

that being said, A Day No Pigs Would Die was a terribly boring book. I agree with the fact that the shortness of it was the only thing that made it bearable. If it was any longer I would have burned it. I felt bad for the pig at the end and cried tears of unfathomable sadness, but still was not as sad as I was when I lost my troll babies in the "GREAT BATTLE OF THE TROLLS 4/20/11"
